“The best way to get to know someone is to know what they value, what they support and what they prioritize.”

-Jeffrey Shaw

What I Value

Freedom: I value the freedom of each individual to travel their unique journey of life and to discover their personal purpose and place in the world.

Connection: I value the power and beauty of connection: between people, communities, nations, and the whole planet (and beyond??). As much as I value freedom and the individual, I believe that we are nothing without connections to the whole.

Honesty: I value truth and honesty, even if it’s not the thing that I “want” to hear. 😅

Respect: I value respect for all fellow humans (and other living beings).

Love: I value love, in all its forms - even the messy ones. In the end, it all boils down to love.

What I Support

The ONE Research Foundation: The biggest complaint in holistic healing and alternative medicine is, “but where’s the research?” For over 30 years, the ONE Research Foundation has been raising money and supporting top-quality peer-reviewed clinical research to show the world that NET (the Neuro Emotional Technique) is for real.

The San Francisco Opera: I love opera, and the SF Opera is top notch! I am a season ticket holder, and I love turning new people on to the opera!

Postcrossing: This looks like just a hobby for snail mail geeks, but Postcrossing is an organization that genuinely connects people all over the world and which fosters world peace. Postcrossing is how I make many of my new friends - especially people who are very “different” from me (different politics, spirituality, age, lifestyle, etc.) and helps me to detach from my regular “bubble.”

Frameline: Frameline is the organization that puts on the annual Frameline LGBTQ+ film festival in San Francisco. It’s my #1 favorite local event of the year, and I’m always humbled and awed to see the powerful work that is produced in part with the support of this incredible organization. If it’s hard to get an appointment with me in late June, this is why: I’m probably at the Frameline film festial! 🌈

Planned Parenthood: An amazing organization that supports so many women facing reproductive health care challenges (and I am not just talking about abortion).

The Alembic: an incredible nonprofit mindbody center located in Berkeley!

What I Prioritize

  • my kid

  • sleep

  • career

  • continual learning

  • spirit

  • water (to be near it, in it, on it, and I suppose to drink it, too!)

  • introvert-friendly friendshipping

Bio

I was born in Washington, DC. I don’t “believe in” astrology, but, if you’re into that sort of thing, I’m an Aquarius / Water Rat. I’m 1/2 Korean, but my last name is not Korean. It’s made-up. (It used to be McCaughey, but I didn’t want to spend my whole life correcting people on the pronunciation and then having to answer to the comment, “you don’t look Irish.” 🙄) I have a 21-year-old kid who is very passionate about their YouTube channel!

I don’t have any full-time pets right now, but I share a cat with my neighbor in Sacramento and help to take care of turtle that found its way to the Sacramento house pond. Also, I’ve made friends with the local ravens of Ocean Beach, who I’m sure think of me as “the peanut guy.” Once in a while, I foster kittens and medical foster cats from the SF/SPCA.

If you know what a social 5 is in the Enneagram system, then you know everything there is to know about my personality!  INTJ, for those who are into MBTI. 100% Introvert, pretty strong on the NT and flipped from P to J the moment I became a parent.

I love letter-writing and have had pen-pals for over 45 years (including one of my original pen-pals, a lady in Minnesota who I’ve been writing to since we were in 2nd grade!) and now mostly satisfy my postal urges through Postcrossing. I love water (especially the ocean!), film festivals, beaches, mushrooms, flying, islands, good food… My favorite colors are black and red and my favorite music is 80’s-90’s “alternative,” metal, hardcore and such. Can’t stand show tunes. I love the opera, and have seen about 70 of them in San Francisco over the last 20 years, including 2 rounds of the Ring Cycle.

I received my Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Life University in June of 1997, and my first practice was in Atlanta, Georgia.  I opened the first (and probably the last) “night time chiropractic office” in Atlanta! I thought it was an awesome idea. It kind of wasn’t. I briefly followed and achieved my dream of having a mobile practice in Hollywood, CA, but… turned out that reality also was not as awesome as I thought it would be! I felt like the Goldilocks of chiropractic. I moved again, to San Francisco in 2000, which was just right. 😊 In 2020, I achieved my dream of being voted Best Chiropractor in 2020’s Best of SF edition of the SF Weekly! 😁 My undergraduate degree is in Nutrition, and I have additional degrees in Metaphysical Sciences and additional advanced certification as an Addictionologist. I received my Advanced Practice Certificate in Mind-Body Medicine from Thomas Jefferson University in 2023, and my Ph.D. in Pastoral Counseling in 2024.

The pandemic rocked my world (not in the good way) and it got me to really think about the “rest of my life.” It is what made me decide to take the leap and explore ways to help more people and make a bigger difference in the time that I have left. So far, I’ve written and released 3 books, have developed some courses, and am continuing to hone my skills as an NET specialist.

Stay tuned, because the story is not over yet!

p.s. If you want to learn more about me, check out my book, The Issues are in the Tissues: Get Comfortable in Your Own Skin and Thrive in Business and in Life, which is available on Google Play, amazon, Kindle, and Audible. It’s a fast read, but it packs in my philosophy and approach to health, my personal experiences with it, and what I’ve learned in my 26+ years in practice! IF ONLY all doctors had an equivalent book to check out! 😅
